Antebellum
When we get home, Mary is there waitin' fo' us. Without one word, she helps me with my packed back and kisses both of my cheeks. She don't say hello, but she don't gotta. I can see it in her eyes. She ignore the Misses completely, headin' toward the mansion door, with one of my bags an' a swing in her step I ain't seen 'fore. Maybe it cause I was gone fo' some days, but she don't seem like herself no mo'. She seem... she seem less subservient.
The Misses is back to her normal self, all bratty an' mean again. It like she wants me to forget what happened on our little trip. An' if thats what she want, she doin' a real good job, cause I already am startin' to forget. Maybe I was chilled with a fever, an' was jus' makin' all this up in my head.
Even though I kno' that ain't true, it a real nice thought.
She with her bein' all grumpy- she takes Mary's little self-righteous act real, real bad. She pouts, one hip jutted out an' murmurs under her breath sompin' about daddy. I wish I could think a sompin' to say to her- maybe calm her a bit, but I can't so I shut my mouth an' go to follow Mary. But she already in the manor.
"You need help with yo' bags?"
Lloyd is at the door when I get there, a half a smile on his face. I can't tell if it fake or not- if he really happy to see me. He could be, cause I'm sure spendin' time with me is mo' fun than spendin' days with daddy.
"Mary got it," I say, "But the Misses could sure use yo' help."
He wrinkle his nose- I guess he ain't too fond of her neither- an' then reluctantly he nods. "Alrigh', she in a bad mood today?"
"Mmm hmm."
His shoulders visibly slouch, an' he looks mo' sullen than jus' a few minutes ago. "Jus' shower her with complements. That works wonders."
He laughs, an' with that prompt I scuse myself real quick 'fore I do sompin' to make him hate me. It always better to end on good terms, than bad ones. Specially cause I probably gonna marry him.
Mary ain't nowhere to be seen when I get inside- I guess she musta gone upstairs- an' so I sneak inta the kitchen to say hi to Cecile.
But wha' I find is much greater than that. Both of 'em are there, an' 'fore I even kno' what I doin'- I run into Cecile's arms an' than his. An' I stay there fo' far too long.
