"You gonna eat that?"
I shake my head, pushin' it toward Lloyd in a half attempt to make 'em like me 'gain. In truth I could eat all a it- down ta the last crumb. Cecile made my favorite breakfast this mornin', an' I only got the chance ta eat half. But I gotta do whatever make daddy happy righ' now- even if it is starvin' myself. Once we back on normal terms an' he come ta visit me 'gain, even though I hate it so- I can go back. At least a little. An' maybe to sacrifice one night, an' some food ain't too much to ask fo'. Gettin' daddy back on my side have mo' benefits than disadvantages.
"Thank you," Lloyd say, mouth half-full- little pieces of food fallin' from it an' missin' the plate too. They end up on the table- in a gross little pile that I can't even look at without feelin' a little sick ta my stomach.
"You are welcome."
I glance to daddy, who is lookin' at me like I've done real good. He give me half a smile, then turn to Lloyd. I guess it time fo' even mo' damage control. I don' even think we needs this much- Lloyd an' his father still here after all, but I go alon' with it. In part cause wha' I said before- bein' in daddy's good graces ain't too bad an idea, an' in part cause I don' wanna be with Mista Smith. An' though Mary now- I still remember wha' he told me. An' it still haunt my dreams.
"Lloyd- you like it?" Daddy ask, "It Corinne favorite too."
Lloyd nod, though he ain't find it that intrestin'. I can tell cause his eyes all glossed over an' he still chewin' like one of them cows or somethin'. It really gross to hear.
"Corinne also like goin' on walks- an' she'll be goin' with Mary righ' after this- if you'd like to join?"
Daddy been doin' this all week- tryin' to get me an' Lloyd close. But Lloyd always answer no- he too tired, or hungry or already got plans with 'is father. But daddy don't stop tryin'- he nothin' if not determined.
"It is real nice out," I add- though I really got no idea. "An' I'd love if you join me."
I doin' my eyelash thin' 'gain- which probably don't work on Lloyd- but I haven't tried since our first meetin'- so it worth the shot. Beside I don't think Lloyd got too much 'gainst me himself- he jus' don' want me as a wife. But maybe he won't min' me as company- if he too bored an' all.
"There ain' nothin' to do in here anyway." An' with that I've gotten my first yes in all a two weeks.
