Nell and The Afterdark
"He shot me!" she cried.
"No, he made you think he shot you. That's what Seer does," Derek explained as he stood, towering, over his mechanic. "But what the Hell are those lines on your neck from?"
The Afterdark tried to get a good look at the strange white and pink zigzags on the flesh of the right side of Nell's neck. They reached up the side of her face and terminated under her right eye. Derek couldn't tell how far down they reached because her collar hid the tips.
"I'll explain later," she promised. Her hand moved to cover them from view.
"Nope. You're going to explain now." There was no arguing with The Afterdark. "Get up, Fixer. We're pretty far out in the middle of nowhere."
"Why did they--"
"Not a clue. Explain the burns."
"I told you some about the Tesla Coil..."
"Yep. Last winter. You were vague." Derek put one of his massive hands on Nell's back to nudge her into walking with him. She responded to the cue and began to trudge through the forest with him.
"Shocks don't hurt me on the inside, but on whenever I get zapped, it leaves these marks and it hurts. Even little shocks from static are... paralyzing."
"So that's your weakness," Derek said. Nell looked up at him questioningly.
