Nell and The Afterdark
He looked at it more closely, bending over to get near. The blood was in the final stages of drying.
The Afterdark tromped upstairs, ducking a full two feet to avoid a crossbeam.

They heard heavy footsteps on the concrete stairs. Nell got up so fast her head spun, and Walker jumped with surprise like a dog whose tail has been pulled.
"Not Seer; That's The Afterdark," Nell advised. "Did you have anyone outside?"
"Kara on surveillance," Walker mumbled.
Doug stood slowly and put his gun down. He pointed two fingers at Nell, then aimed them back at his eyes, and back to Nell. A man of few words was Doug. The Fixer respected that.
Kara's almost certainly dead then, Nell thought in a manner that was too matter-of-fact for her tastes. "Don't, like, surprise him or anything," she cautioned.
"I hate my job," Walker murmured. Nell smirked.
Derek rounded the corner and looked at Nell from about five feet outside of the conference room. In the hard yellow light from the tungsten-rich light bulbs, his shadowzone looked purple rather than black. It had acquired an almost liquid texture.
"I'm okay," she said.
He grunted, probably because he thought there could be microphones around to record his voice.

Author's Note: I have been on vacation and apologize for not writing one page per day. I am very appreciative of the amount of praise I have received while I have been writing. It warms my heart. I am also appreciative of this website, without which I would never have started writing this strange, strange, story.
