Nell chased after him, but felt winded as before. Daniel cringed in the light but voiced no complaint. They passed right by the floor where Walker and Doug were waiting in the conference room and barreled straight to the basement.
Upon seeing the mess she had made, Nell wrinkled her nose. "That's a lot of blood."
"Actually, no," The Afterdark said. "You should see what happens when you wring out an entire body. Now, is he going to come in through this door?"
"Probably," Nell replied, trying to ignore Derek's comment about body-wringing.
"We wait here."
"I want to leave," Daniel voiced strongly. Nell wanted Seer to die.

The Afterdark paced. He had crafted a large shadowzone in which he could move freely without Nell staring at him analytically.
In truth, he was glad that she was alright. On the other hand, she owed him big time. She already owed him her life from last winter. He figured she owed him something like that as well for this rescue.
He had far from forgotten the forest after the hospital! That had been an intense fight, and he had even been wounded. Nell had been in danger, and he had saved her from more than bodily injury. Derek had seen the minds of people who had experienced psychological trauma, and it was never pretty.
He noticed a bit late that he could touch the boy's mind. He had expected the boy to have powers, but he did not. On the other hand, The Afterdark found that he could not read or control the boy. The closest he had come to having this problem was when he had tried to read the mind of someone who did not speak English as their native language, but Daniel spoke English fluently.
