Nell and The Afterdark
Night fell asleep at 8:03 PM precisely. Derek put on his mask and gloves and other dark clothes. He took his laser gun just in case. He left Nell alone in his warehouse. She had been watching a science fiction show and had been, for the last hour, explaining how the designs of fictional machines could be improved. Derek was glad to be leaving. He liked Nell, but when she talked about engineering she could be as annoying as fuck.
Effectively invisible, he jogged along the back streets. The city crashed and boomed in its typical cacophonous manner. He approached the police station and expanded his field of darkness to a ten foot radius. Then he walked inside the building.
He forced everyone to ignore him, except the woman with keys. She unlocked the back door to the evidence room for him, and smiled blandly. He pushed her gently out of the way with his formidable mind and went to the room.
Crooks with Powers section; Illusionists and Mind Controllers sub-section (It amused Derek that crimes were sorted by the kinds of powers they involved). He took a number of folders, put everything back in its place, and left casually. He walked home in no hurry.
When he got home and checked the clock, he realized that the total amount of him his errand had consumed was less than an hour and a half. Yet, in that time, The Fixer has managed to wake up, turn off the television and fall asleep on the couch again. He supposed she existed with more of a hunter-gatherer lifestyle than his own. After all, she only ate every once in a while and spent the rest of her time conserving energy or working for money. Here in his home, where food was readily available, there was less panic and more time for relaxation.
"Nell. Get up," he demanded.
She twitched awake.
