“Oh no! Not the thousands of essential bags, shoes and clothing items! How could you throw them out?!” I put on my shocked face.
She laughed and said “Alright enough picking on mom for one evening. Nikki called to make sure she was still staying. I told her yes is that okay?”
“Of course. Is she on her way?”
“She said she was. That’s probably her now.” She looked at the lights coming up the driveway through the window. “I’m going to go take a shower. If you need anything call me okay?”
“Alright mom.”
She walked off and I went to the door. Nikki was kissing Bear bye at the car. When she pulled away he held her close until he realized that I was on the porch. He grabbed her hand and led her up the sidewalk and the stairs. He hugged me when he reached me, something he’d only started doing lately. When he let go he looked at Nikki for just a moment and said goodbye to us. She hugged me as he walked back to the car, tighter than he had but that was just her. We were in the house before he left.
“So where’s mom?” She had always called my mom that, even before she really met her.
“She got in the shower. You want anything?”
“How about we get a Pepsi, some popcorn, and a pillow?”
“That sounds good. I need to talk to you about something anyway.”
She grabbed two Pepsis and glasses while the popcorn popped and I got the bowl. When it beeped I threw it, bag and all into the bowl and headed up to my room. She shut the door and we set our stuff down.
After the movie was in and we were settled she asked, “So what’s up?”
I didn’t know how to answer that so I just held up my left hand. Her eyes lit up ant the sight of the ring.
“Oh my God! When did he ask you?! How did he ask you?! Tell me everything?”
“Shh! My mom doesn’t know. Nobody else knows. He asked me a long time ago and I told him that I wanted to wait.”
“So what changed your mind?”
I didn’t really know what to say so I decided on the truth. “The baby.”
“You’re pregnant?!”
“Yeah I am.”
“How far along are you?”
“Umm four months, exactly.”
“How can you be sure?”
“We only had sex once Nikki.”
“Oh. Does Aiden know?”
