Dream
“If you leave now my dad will hear you and I’ll get into trouble anyway. But if you lay on the other side of the bed you can stay.”
“Huh?”
“My dad’s going to come and check on me before he leaves for work and if he sees you then I’m dead.”
“That would make sense.”
“So what do you want to watch?”
“Whatever you want.”
I grabbed a movie at random, put it in and turned it on. It was the movie we watched the first time he came over.
“I love this movie.”
“I do, too.”
“Are you okay?”
“I’m fine. Why?”
“You’re shivering.”
“I’m just a little cold.”
“Come here.”
“Why?”
“Because I’ll warm you up.”
“Oh.” I slid into bed next to him. His body was always warm, oh so warm. He reached around me to pull the blanket onto my shoulders.
We watched the movie for a while, then he said, “She wanted me to stay away from you.”
“What?”
“She wanted me to stop hanging around with you and I told her I wouldn’t, which is why she left.”
“Why?”
“Why did she want that? Or why wouldn’t I?”
“Both.”
“She thought you were the reason I didn’t want to be with her any more. And I said no because I wasn’t going to give up my best friend just because she wanted me to.”
“But you’ve known her longer.”
“You understand me better than she ever could. If you left I wouldn’t go to her, I wouldn’t know who to go to, I would probably just have fallen apart without anyone knowing.”
“Why?”
“She gave me a choice between two people in my life. When I thought about a life without her I knew I would be okay. But when I thought about a life without you I almost broke down right
