“What about my mom?”
“She left a little while ago. She checked on you before you left.”
“Did she see you?” I was wide awake now.
“I slid into the floor. I was so scared you were going to wake up and freak out.”
“Why?”
“Because when I got in the floor you said my name. I guess she thought you were dreaming . . . Were you?”
“Yeah.”
“What about?” His eyes were so eager.
“You were lying with me and you said you had to go. Then you were gone and I was all alone.”
“You heard that?”
“Huh?”
“I actually told you that, Hun.”
“Oh. . . Well, yeah I heard it. I didn’t want you to go.”
“Aww. . .I’m here now, honey.” He held me close and rocked me gently. “Are you hungry?”
“A little.”
“What do you want for breakfast?”
“Surprise me.”
“I think I can do that.” He kissed my forehead and said. “Why don’t you get a shower while I cook?”
“Okay.”
As he stood up, he pulled me with him. He grabbed my hand and led me to the bathroom. After squeezing my hand, he walked toward the kitchen. I watched him for a moment then closed the door. Somehow avoiding a glance at the mirror, I turned on the water and climbed under the spray.
It felt so good beating on my back that I simply stood there as I deliberated on which soap to use. Finally, I grabbed the Axe and washed my hair. “So what if he doesn’t like it, he has his other girl anyway.”
I turned off the water off, grabbed a towel, and opened the door. The scent of breakfast filled the air. I was suddenly starving.
The first thing I saw was my lightest jeans, almost white, and a navy blue shirt. I pulled them on and headed towards the kitchen.
The room was filled with the sounds of him bustling around. I walked to the island and sat in one of the high-backed chairs to watch him. He was humming to him self as he scooped hash browns, eggs and bacon onto two plates, poured coffee in a mug for me, and poured him a glass of Pepsi. I liked Pepsi, but I wanted coffee when I first woke up. He sat the plates in front
