“He said that ever since he’s known her it was like she was the only one he needed and Lily picked up on it. She gave him an ultimatum and he told her that it was over all because he couldn’t live without this girl.” I realized that I was almost in tears but I didn’t care anymore.
“Look Hun. I don’t know what’s up with Aiden right now, but whatever it is he’ll get over it. He cares about you more than anything.”
“No he doesn’t. He only cares about his girl.”
“I know for a fact that he cares about you more than he could ever care about Lily or this other girl he’s after. He knows it too but you know how he is. It’ll take a while for all of that to sink in for him.”
“Yeah, I know but his hardheadedness is getting on my nerves. Bear?”
“Yeah?”
“Does he know that I like him?”
“I don’t know but I think he found his friend.”
“What do you mean?”
“He’s coming this way.”
I turned to where he was looking and sure enough there was Aiden walking toward me. His eyes held anger and something else that I didn’t understand but they never wavered from mine as he waded through the bodies.
“Hey.”
“Hi.” My voice was quiet, almost breathy.
“Hey, Ash.”
“What’s up Aiden?”
“Not much. Where’s Nikki?”
“She’s in the bathroom.”
“Oh. Do you mind if I steal Britt for a while?”
“It’s fine with me. Take care of her though.”
“I will, especially with her looking like that.”
That? The word echoed in my mind as he took my hand and pulled me away. He didn’t stop until we were in the area designated as the dance floor. I didn’t know what to do until he decided for me. He yanked me to him, held me against the front of him. Stunned, I couldn’t make myself move but he moved for me until I could. Finally I found a rhythm with him and tried to keep up. Every time I tried to put some distance between us he pulled me back. The music moved through us as others moved around us. He used one hand to drape my arms around his neck while he held me with the other. I kept them there afraid to make him angrier. His arms wound around my waist as he moved me with his body. Heat radiated from him, rolling off of him in waves.
