She grabbed my hand and was quiet for a while then said, “He wants to see you.”
“How is he?”
“The doctors say that he’s almost ready to be released. They said he didn’t look nearly as bad as you did.”
“When are they going to let him go?”
“The doctor’s going to check him later today and if he’s okay they’ll release him.”
“Can I see him?” My eyelids were getting heavy.
“Later. You should get some sleep for now.”
“When I wake up?”
“Of course.”
I let my eyes close then I heard my dad open the door.
“How is she?”
“She’s better. The pain killers are kicking in.”
“Did you talk to her?”
“Yes.”
“What did she say?”
“Exactly what he said.”
“Is she okay with everything?”
“Yes.”
“Maybe we should just let him stay.”
“Do you really think that’s such a good idea? I mean, after this?”
“They said that they did this so the wouldn’t be apart. If we keep them together then there’s no reason for this to happen again, is there?”
“I guess not but…”
“Then it’s decided. He’s old enough that he doesn’t need permission from anyone but us.”
“When do we tell them?”
“We’ll do it when we get both of them together.”
“Why wait?”
“We’ll wait because it’s a choice that they need to make together, especially if she’s pregnant.”
“What did the doctors say?”
“He’ll be able to go home today.”
“She’ll be happy to see him. But I meant about her being pregnant.”
“They can’t know this early all we can do is wait and see what happens. Let’s go get something to eat. I’m starving.”
“I don’t know…”
