“I thought you really meant someone else so I didn’t try to say anything. i was scared of what you’d say. Scared you wouldn’t want me. I thought you would laugh at me or run away the moment you knew.”
“I would never do that, Baby. I’ll stay as long as you want me.”
“I will always want you, for as long as I live and beyond.”
“So are we more? Or are we still just friends?”
“We can be more . . . if you want . . .”
“I told you I wanted to be more, Baby. And if you want the same then we should be.”
“Then I guess we’re . . .” He kissed me then, gently, carefully, hesitant. No kiss could be sweeter.
“More?” he said when we parted.
“More.” I answered, nodding dizzily, feeling dazed.
He kissed me again, this time less hesitant, his lips less gentle than they had been a moment ago.
“What’s wrong, Baby?” murmuring against my skin.
“I don’t know.” My voice sounded so different, the feelings running through me so strange.
“Then kiss me back, Brittany.” He kissed my neck and it made me shiver. “Please kiss me back? Don’t you want to kiss me, Baby?”
“Yes.” I could barely breathe.
“Then do it. Please?” He backed up enough that I could look into his angels’ face.
No angel should have to beg. I thought as I leaned forward to join my lips with his.
It started gentle, turned breathless. Hands threaded in my hair, pulling me close, as I wrapped my arms around his neck, holding him to me.
We finally pulled away some time later. I didn’t want to be away from him so I snuggled close to him as he lay down. He sighed. After a while he spoke.
“We should head back now.”
“Do we have to?”
“No. But I think we should.”
“Why?”
“Because we’re supposed to be at the party, but we’re not.”
“Fine, let’s go. But Aiden?”
“Yeah?”
“When we get back, am I your girlfriend or just your friend?”
“What do you mean?”
“I mean, the people at the party, do we act like friends around them? Or like I’m your girlfriend?”
