“Are you okay?”
I laid my head in her lap. I didn’t want to see whatever judgment there would be in her eyes. “I’m fine it’s just something Aiden said.”
“What was it?”
“He said that it wouldn’t matter what he wanted that I was just going to do whatever they told me to do.”
“Britt, he was just scared. He loves you and he probably wants this baby just as much as you do. You’ll do what’s right in the end. I know you will.”
“But what if I can’t tell them no?”
“I’ve known you our whole lives and all that time you always stood up for what you believed in. You love Aiden and you want to make him happy, but in the very end you have to do what’s going to make you happy too. Aiden will respect your decision because he loves you.”
“But it’ll kill him if I don’t keep it.”
“Britt, everything will be okay.”
“How can you be sure?”
“I just am.”
We left it at that and she started the movie over again because we’d missed half of it by talking. Our serious mood faded away as the movie went on and by the end we were giggling so much it hurt. My mom walked in then.
“Aiden’s on the phone.” I hadn’t even heard it ring.
“Thanks.” Nikki grabbed the phone by the bed.
“Hey boo.” She smiled at what he said. “Yeah, she’s right here. Hold on.”
“Hello.”
“Hey baby.” He sounded relieved.
“What’s up?”
“Just wanted to see if Nikki was over there yet. You okay?”
“I’m fine.”
“Feel sick?”
“I feel fine baby.”
“I just wanted to make sure. I’ve got two of you to look out for now.” That made me smile. “I’ll let you go so you can talk to Nikki or whatever you were doing. I love you.”
“I love you too.”
“Bye baby. Bye Nikki.”
“Bye.” I hung up the phone and looked for Nikki. She was putting another movie in.
“Is everything okay?” She asked.
“He was just checking on us.” I stopped. He was checking on us, me and the baby. The word
