CHAPTER 11
Lamai
It was New Year's Eve morning and I was scared. Mila had been elusive the last couple of days and wanted us three to meet. I got the feeling it wasn't a friend meeting friend, but a L4L meeting with just the original three. Apparently we were revealing stuff. Mila had always been the most emotional out of the three of us. I'm not saying we're robots without feelings, but Sheelin and I were better at hiding it all. The reason why I was nervous was because I wasn't sure if I could share what my deepest secrets that no one but me and Dan knew. We had all suffered that day, but I didn't want pity. They all knew me for who I was and I didn't want to be treated like I'm some fragile thing that will break.
Staring at the ceiling, I grabbed my phone off the table next to my bed and called Mila. I needed support and the only way I could do that was if I could bring someone. The phone rang twice and I thought she wouldn't pick up.
"Hello?" her voice said through the tinny speaker.
"Hey," I said.
"Hey, Lamai, what's up?"
"Nothing much, listen, I need to talk to you about tonight,"
"Alright, but don't tell me you're backing out,"
"No, no, but I need to bring someone," I held my breath and waited for her to respond.
"Okay," she said slowly after a couple second, "Why do you need to bring someone?"
"Well," I said, my plan of what I was going to say fleeting my brain, "um, if we're talking about what happened /that/ summer, then I need some... moral support. Things are complicated and I'd like to bring someone who already knows what happened. I don't think I can do this if I can't bring someone,"
"Okay, I see what you mean," she said, then paused to think, "Well, what if we all bring one person?" I sucked in my breath. That's two more people who will know of my past for a total of five people. Could I really tell five people what I went through? I must have made some noise of agreement because Mila said something about telling Sheelin and hung up. I immediately texted Dan and told him to meet me at my house. After, I grabbed the nearest piece of paper and wrote my story down. I sat by the front door waiting for Dan. When he knocked I flung open the door and pulled him inside.
"Uh, hello to you too," he said.
"Yes, hi, listen, I need you to go to the park tonight with me,"
"When?"
"Midnight. I'm meeting Mila, Sheelin, and whoever they're bringing. I want to bring you,"
