We got out of my car and headed to Shay's. I gave him plenty of time to back out, but he didn't.
"Shay," I called as I opened the door, "Shay? You here?" Shay came out wearing a black dress and even though she wore a lot of makeup to cover it up, we could see her black eye.
"Hey," she smiled sadly, "It's all set up so-"
"What happened?" I demanded, "Shay who did this to you?" She wouldn't meet my eyes and I knew it was her new boyfriend.
"He's a good guy," she mumbled.
"I don't care if he's 'good', he's hurting you and it has to stop," I said, grabbing her arm gently before she could turn away.
"I can't do anything," she cried.
"Is he living with you?"
"Yes,"
"I have a couple places where you could stay, one girl is living on her own and she could use some company," I offered. Ben looked at me trying to figure out if I was talking about Sheelin, which I was.
"I-I have work and he knows where I work and he'd be angry with me," she sputtered.
"Does Dan know?" I asked. Dan was her boss.
"He thinks I got in a fight at a bar,"
"Can I talk to him?" Ben broke in, "I have some connections who might be able to keep him away,"
"Legally?" I asked, "And he isn't going to 'disappear'?"
Ben rolled his eyes, "Yes legally, and he won't disappear, unless you want him to," Shay paused, but ended up pointing out Dan's office. Ben left us and I looked at Shay more closely.
"Please stay at the house," I begged.
"Which one?" she asked miserably.
"You can stay at my friend's place, the one who's all alone. She's the red-head who was with me when we got our tattoos," Shay chewed her lip and slowly nodded. We sat there and waited for Ben to finish his conversation with Dan. After 15 minutes, he came out and smiled.
"We got this worked out, just let me make a call and then we can get this tattoo done with," he said. He stepped out and left me and Shay alone again.
"We'll take you to get some things from your place. Is he there right now?" I asked.
Shay sniffed and looked at the clock on the wall. "No," she said, "It's noon and he should be at work,"
"Where at?" I asked. I had to be sure that there was no way he'd be home.
"Home Depot," she replied.
Ben walked in and said, "Okay, it's all set, I told them to send someone over here right away so we can go pick up some stuff from your place," Great minds think alike.
"But," Shay said, slowly rising, "Tattoo first. I have the next thirty minutes free so what would you like?"
"If possible, I'd like L4L around my ring finger," he said.
