I paused and thought about skating around the issue but decided to go in for the kill. /How many times have you been to the gazebo?/(BTW, SLASHES ARE GOING TO BE ITALICS, SORRY IF YOU GET ANNOYED BY THEM)
/Why?/
/Just tell me./
/A couple times. Can you tell me what this is about?/
/What goes on there?/ When he read that his face twisted in pain.
/Did Emily put you up to this?/
/Just answer the question./
After a moment he wrote /It's the same as driving out to a cliff overlooking the city./ and hid his face from me. I was deflated. I knew it was silly of me to hope that he was different from other guys, but it crushed me. Tears danced in my vision and I quickly stood up and walked to the teacher and asked if I could go to the bathroom. I avoided Mila's gaze, but I could feel her worry and care. Emily smiled sweetly at me and for some god forsaken reason, I returned the smile. The appropriate thing to do would've been to give her the bird, but I couldn't.
I quietly closed the door and walked around the hallway. Except for the putrid green lockers, I was alone. I slid down one and grabbed my arms as if they'd keep me from drowning. Gasping noises escaped my clenched teeth and I felt cool tears slide down my face. Footsteps hurried over and Mila sat down beside me. I quickly dried my tears and hid my face. She wrapped her arms around me.
"I'm sorry," she whispered. I lost it and started crying.
"I was so stupid and I thought he was different and I didn't listen to you and oh god I'm such an idiot!" I blubbered. I kept talking in incomplete or run on thoughts for another minute before Mila grabbed my face.
"You," she said, drying my tears, "have been so strong for the past six years and you deserve a good cry," I took a couple deep breaths and slowly stood up. Mila kept one hand on my shoulder and waited for me to signal that I was fine. I brushed her fingers off and returned to class. Ben was gone and the note was back on my drawing pad. I looked at it and stuffed it in my back pocket. Mila came back a while later and went back to studying. Ben didn't return to class.
"Aw, did your boyfriend leave you?" Emily sneered. I shrugged and walked past her. The rest of the day was covered in a sad haze. I finally took out the note Ben had left for me when I was walking back to my house. An empty house and I was all alone. This was depressing. I looked at the note, expecting some random gibberish about how I overreacted, but all I read was sweetness.
