Chapter 7
Lamai
Dan and I had managed to escape on our own before Mila could notice. Did I feel bad? Of course, but I needed time with Dan and I wasn't ready to tell her yet about us. We mainly hung out downtown. I unknowingly returned home. To my house. When I was supposed to be over at Mila's house. Needless to say my mom flipped when I walked through the front door.
"What the hell are you doing here?" she demanded as I closed the door.
"I'm home?" I said.
"You're supposed to be at Mila's!"
"Well I'm home," I snapped back.
"Do you mean to tell me," she said slowly, closing the distance between us, “That you were walking out there alone?” Her eyes were a storm. Mine probably looked the same.
“Nope,” I smiled, “I was with Dan,”
“Like he could care for you!” she exclaimed.
“Mom,” I said slowly, narrowing my eyes,”Your job as a parent is to keep me safe, but even you should know that you can't shelter me. You read those stupid magazines, you should know that I'm going to rebel if you keep sheltering me," Her eyes widened and she took a step back, "I appreciate everything you do for me, but I'm my own person and I will not live in the shadows of protection," I brushed past her and huffed up the stairs. I collapsed on my bed, panting. Something was wrong. I knew that I got winded easily, but I shouldn't be out of breath by now. Angry red spots danced in my vision. I was fainting.
Pain stung my face. Did I fall on the floor? I thought that I was on my bed. More pain, sharp, like someone slapping me. I opened my eyes. My mother's worried face filled my vision.
"Wake up, wake up! I will not lose you again!" she shouted.
"Mom," quiet voices said, my brothers, "she's awake," I groaned and rolled over. I had fainted and rolled onto the ground. I pushed them away and struggled to get up. My hand landed in something sticky; my blood. Bile and fear rose into my mouth, but I quickly swallowed it.
"You nose bled when you fell," my brother, Kyle, said.
"Yeah, there was blood everywhere and mom thought you had died," my other brother, Drake, said. Kyle and Drake were my younger twin brothers and as much as I disliked them, I loved them so much.
"Out of the way!" Mom said and pushed them out of the way when they took too long. the garage door opened meaning that Dad was home just in time for all of the drama to unfold "At least go get your dad up here!"
They ran downstairs and I heard frantic feet dashing up to my room.
