The bell rang and I jumped out of my seat. Mila grabbed my arm and whispered something in my ear before gently pushing me away. It was either 'Let him know what he's getting into' or something along the lines of 'Tell Jen Po that she's through'. My bets were on the first one so I nodded and practically ran to math. Ben was sitting in his usual seat and I stopped and just stared at him. Either way, we were going to change. If I didn't say anything, then I'd feel guilty. If I said something and he said yes, then he'd become part of the 'family'. If he said no, then whatever we had would most likely go down the toilet. All I need to do is go in there, say it and wait. I can do this, right?
I marched purposely up to him and said, "Uh, hey," Smooth.
"Hey," he smiled, "How are you doing?"
"Good," I said quickly, "Listen, there's something I want to ask you,"
"What is it?" he asked.
"Well," I began, but a group of guys surrounded Ben.
"Hey, Ben," one said, "is it true? Does Thomas really have Chlamydia?"
"And does Emily have it too?" another said.
"Aren't you two going out?" a third guy said. I was slightly pissed that they just walked over and started talking to him, but he was their leader in a sense. Leader. He was their leader. He wouldn't want to give up that power to join us. Oh well, at least I tried.
"Whoa, guys," Ben said, "First off, no, I am not going out with Emily, I'm going out-"
"Well Emily's saying that you guys are going out so you might want to do something about that," the third guy said.
After a pause, Ben asked, "When did she say that?"
"Yesterday morning,"
"I see,"
"But," Ben started. He stood up and pulled me closer to him, "This is Sheelin, my girlfriend,"
"Hey," the first guy said, "I'm David, this is Mark, and that's John," he said pointing to the second and third guy. I nodded and stood there awkwardly.
"Hey, you're that girl from the newspaper," John said.
I laughed nervously, "Yup, that was me,"
"Didn't you say something about going to that, Ben?" Mark asked.
"I did go to it," Ben replied.
"Right on," John said, "I heard that a lot of people who aren't in it went,"
"That was my fault," Ben smiled sheepishly. I jumped as the bell rang.
"Did you ask him," Mila whispered. I jumped again.
"No, not yet, we were sidetracked," I said, my heart hammering. We took our seats, and like usual, we took the homework from Mr. Mayza's desk when he wasn't looking.
