"So L4L would be like a ring?" Shay asked. Ben nodded and we headed back to her station. I watched as Ben approved the design and settled in for the pain to begin. It took a little bit more than 10 minutes.
"Felt like a pin poking a really bad sunburn," he said as he stood up.
"Well, it will go away," I said as I handed Shay a wad of cash. A bell above the door sounded and a willowy woman walked in.
"Sydney," Ben called out. She snapped around at the sound of his voice and flashed a smile.
"Hey, Ben," she said as she walked over, "And you must be Shay," she stuck out her hand in Shay's direction.
"Who are you?" she asked, confused. I was confused too. Who was this blonde chick and how did she know Shay's name? Unless...
"You're the protection?" I asked, hesitantly.
"Yeah," she said, her smile never faltering..
"She may not look it," Ben said, "but she is the top in her Krav Maga class and the best bodyguard at Central Protection,"
"And just how do you have these connections?" I asked.
He hesitated before mumbling, "My dad owns CP," It all made sense now.
"Well," Sydney said, "I'm Sydney Pendergast and I know you're Shay, but who are you?"
"Mila Balangue," I said. She nodded and we left the shop. Shay gave us directions to her place and w pulled up in front of a slightly rundown apartment building.
"So here's the plan," Sydney said, twisting around in the passenger seat, "I'll lead, Shay, you're behind me, then Ben and Mila you'll take up the rear in case anyone comes from behind. Shay, you are going to grab your stuff, so any laptops, clothes, pets, pictures, cameras; basically if it's yours, pack it. Ben will help you pack stuff and load the car up,"
"Okay," Shay said, "There's suitcases in the closet," she handed the key to Sydney and we headed out. I kept a sharp eye out for anyone who could be following, but there was no one. Sydney opened the door and slowly walked in, her hand on a holster on her hip. Half a minute later she ushered us in and Shay and Ben set off. I stayed at the door and looked out for anyone who might come up. Sydney stood at the window watching for anyone matching Shay's boyfriend's description.
Shay and Ben worked fast. They moved quickly from room to room grabbing stuff and packing it away. They had three suitcases full within the first ten minutes. Ben went down and loaded up the car and I took over packing duty. Shay was frantically shoving clothes into any available bag.
"How much do you have left?" I asked.
"I grabbed my laptop, camera, USBs, clothes, sensitive documents, and pictures, so all that's left is the safe in the closet and my sewing machine," she replied, zipping up her fourth gym bag.
"What's the combo?" I asked.
