That night was uneventful, the boys left after dinner and all was quiet. Sheelin kept Mila away from me and I steered clear of them. But I couldn't avoid them forever. I quietly got ready for bed when I heard Mila start punching the bag in Sheelin's drawing room and slipped between the covers of one of the bed's laid out on the floor. Half an hour later I heard them come downstairs and I feinted sleep.
The next morning I got up and found I was covered in a fine sheet of sweat. Then I remembered the nightmare. Well, I slightly remembered it. It was a big mess in my mind now, but I remember a scary version of Mila towering over me. And flames, lots and lots of flames. I guess it was my own personal hell, but hey, it's a new day.
I took a shower and felt my stress wash away. After, I looked in the steam covered mirror and saw my reflection; stormy brown eyes framed by my black hair. I radiated confidence. I felt so strong that I could take on the world! I struck some poses in the mirror with my new found confidence and opened the door, ready for whatever was thrown my way. Then I walked straight into Mila.
"We need to talk," she said quickly, "like, right now,"
I deflated and warily asked, "What about?"
"That boy, Dan,"
"I don't want to talk about this,"
"Well I do," Mila said, putting her hand on my sternum to keep me there when I started to walk away, "We can't go on ignoring each other and he isn't going to break this friendship up,"
"Is it friendship? Or tyranny?" I snapped. Totally uncalled for, so I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. Mila stared at me in disbelief. Her blue eyes took on an icy glare.
"Tyranny? Is that what you see it as? This is exactly what I wanted to talk about," she hissed. So much for controlling our emotions. "Just because I'm the so-called leader of the Lakas doesn't mean that you guys have to treat me as if I'm untouchable. I don't dictate your lives and I never want to,"
"Well what about Sheelin? You told her to watch herself so she wouldn't 'crash and burn' with Ben," I replied hotly.
"I told her that because I didn't know Ben and he hung out with the people we listened to on the bus so what the hell am I supposed to think?" She cried out, "I did it because I care and I didn't want her to be strung along by some stupid jock and then left and laughed at by the whole entire school,"
"Well she's still going out with him,"
"Okay, I didn't want her to do it without a warning," she corrected, rolling her eyes.
"So what's the whole point of this conversation then?"
