“Sorry,” Elle quickly replied before continuing to follow her aunt to the kitchen where she ate and met her fellow co-workers. Elle noticed that most of them had been a little older than herself while some were the age of Elle’s aunt. She wondered if the younger girls were also working to pay for college, but the thought didn’t last very long.

Later that evening, Elle excused herself from her aunt’s grasp after dinner and retired to her room, which was located in a much different hall than her fellow co-workers. The room was simple, but a little more than what she had expected. It consisted of a small balcony, a large open space and a larger closet than the one at her mother’s house. She even was fortunate enough to get her own bathroom.

Off to the right, Elle’s boxes and larger furniture was placed next to a wall, next to the cleaning supplies ready for her to empty them. Before she began unpacking, Elle dusted and cleaned the room, which looked as if a vacuum had exploded. Elle sighed loudly, blowing her side bangs out of her eyes and quickly pulled her hair in a high ponytail.

First, she took down the drapes that were ratty and torn and threw them in the trash. She then moved onto the dusting, vacuuming and cleaning the bathroom. She was grateful that they had brought a new mattress for her new queen sized bed. By the time she had finished making the bed and unpacking some of her things, it had been around midnight. Elle was completely exhausted and fell asleep with ease.

The next morning, Elle woke up around ten in the morning and after finishing her usual morning routine, she went downstairs to meet her aunt, who was in the kitchen making herself a quick snack.

“Did you just wake up?” her aunt asked surprised.

“Yeah, I managed to completely clean my room last night,” Elle explained, sitting on a stool next to Kate.

“That’s good. So what are your plans for the rest of the day?”
