“Yeah I’m fine,” Elle answered as she walked closer to them. “I was just finishing a paper.”
“There are leftovers in the frig for you,” Kate stated. Elle nodded with a small smile and found said leftovers. When her dinner was warmed, Elle sat next to Kate, who motioned for Elle to do so. As she ate, Glenda and Elle worked out her work schedule. Since Elle only had classes all day Wednesday, Glenda decided that she wouldn’t work that day and Saturdays would be her days off, while she worked from morning until after dinner the rest of the week.
When Elle finished dinner, she bid her aunt and Glenda goodnight and went back to her room, where she cleaned up the scattered note cards and articles. After, she showered and changed into a pair of shorts and a tank top before climbing into bed.
Monday morning, Elle woke up at seven to her aunt, who instructed her to dress in the uniform given to her. The maids outfit consisted of a simple black t-shirt with the O’Connor’s name sawn in golden thread and a pair of black slacks. Elle found that Mrs. O’Connor required all maids to have their hair pulled back in either in a ponytail, a braid or a bun. Feeling lazy, she quickly pulled her hair in a messy ponytail, not bothering to smooth out the bumps and her side bangs fell out, just as they normally did. She met Glenda and her aunt in the kitchen for breakfast, where the rest of her co-workers were gathered at a large table. She greeted them politely and only a couple out of the five young maids acknowledged her.
Once everyone was finished, Glenda gave the orders of who was doing what for the day. Elle was assigned the floors on the bottom two stories along with a young girl by the name of Kara and after, Elle was to assist the O’Connor’s at dinner. Kara had explained that it would just like being a waitress. Elle and Kara got along quite nicely and the two girls goofed off as they swept and mopped the marble floors and vacuumed the halls.
