Alex raised an eyebrow as he handed the currycomb to her. “Oh?” Elle was becoming a little more interesting every time he saw her.

“I used to train them and compete in horse shows,” she clarified, taking the currycomb and brushing the mare’s dapple-gray coat.

“I was thinking about doing that,” he muttered, confessing his long debate with himself as he watched her eyes fixated on Cassie and the task.

It took a moment for Elle to realize that he wanted a suggestion. She thought about it and briefly looked over the mare. “Well her bone structure is perfect for it and with a bit of training and grooming, I think she has a pretty good chance.” When she finished, she was staring into Alex’s eyes, which seemed to make her feel exposed for some odd reason. She quickly averted her eyes and looked over the next stall and the next. “Although,” she added, “all of your horses seem to have good breeding.”

“So, you think I should enter?” Alex asked taking a step closer. It was as gravity was automatically pulling him toward her.

Elle nodded. “You’d have to have a good –” she turned her head and her breath caught in her throat at the sudden lack of space between them, “– trainer,” she finished, trying to sound as unaffected as possible.

Alex’s gaze was fixated on hers and she wasn’t making any sense. The words that came out became a foreign language to his ears. Latin to be precise. He never understood it. Elle froze on the spot, her brain shutting down as he started to close the gap between them. Their lips met and Elle finally broke out of the trance.

'What is wrong with me?' she questioned herself as she pulled away suddenly. Alex seemed to be taken aback and it showed as he looked at her wide eyes.

She stood awkwardly, shifting the currycomb in her hand, not knowing what to do. He watched her as she finally began to brush the mare once more as if he hadn’t just kissed her. Alex suddenly felt lost his mind blank with confusion.
