Wishes
The print out was a copy of an e-mail. It wasn't very long. All it said was, "Kill him".
"Well, that does seem like convincing evidence."
"You see? This is why I wanted to see you and your uncle. I needed to warn you."
Eric tucked the page into his jacket, near to one of his guns. The solid weight of his concealed weapons comforted him.
"Thank you Ms. Donovan. This is useful information."
"That's it?" She blurted, "You're not going to do anything?"
"I can take care of myself. And it seems like we're here." He pushed a button and opened the partition between them and the driver, "Saul, take Ms. Donovan wherever she likes. I will call you when I need you again."
"Yes sir."
"But-"
Eric closed the door on her astonished face. If she was not the naive innocent she seemed she was a terrific actress, he thought. Anyway he would have to be more careful, just in case.
The back door to the aquarium was wide open. He shook his head at the lax security. Soon enough he would fix that mistake.
Traveling through the dark corridors was vaguely unnerving with the threat of death hanging over his head. Still, he thought, it would be hard for someone to follow him. The echo in the corridors was deafening. If the assassin knew his plans, his best bet would be to wait for him at the mermaid room and take him out before he had a chance to notice anyone was there.
He would have to be very careful.
Unlike the shipping bay doors, the door to the mermaid room was closed. Slowly he reached for the handle, turning it as quietly as he could. The sound of the door unlatching seemed incredibly loud in the silence.
The room was completely dark. As his eyes adjusted he could see that it was filled with stacks of boxes. They seemed to go on endlessly, providing endless hiding places.
On a crazy impulse he switched on a light. Nothing exciting happened. With the light on he could see that the far wall had a drop into a tank of water, presumably leading into one of the main stages.
After a thorough search, he determined that no murderer was hiding behind any
