Mckillop pretended not to notice, but it was obvious that the muscular physique affected her.
Once he was down to his underwear, he jumped into the water. Lower half sufficiently hidden from sight, he removed the last of his clothing and threw it into the corner.
"Now, stay calm, okay. Whatever happens, I love you Mary. I always will."
"What are you talking ab-" She started. But then, Alex had removed the ring.
It was as if the world had shifted. Billy felt a sense of vertigo. One minute, Alex was in the pool. And then suddenly there was only a creature with iridescent scales, giant, globular eyes, and a long, sinuous tail.
The pool also changed. It seemed to go on forever in darkness. No light reflected from its surface. Billy found himself stepping forward without consciously decision.
"Alex!" Ms. Mckillop shouted. Rose was standing, mouth agape, staring at the fish creature.
"Billy." It spoke. It's voice was deep and echoey, as if it came from the bottom of a well. "She is waiting for you."
"Who?" He asked, but he already knew.
"You have to come to her Billy. Follow me, and she will give you everything you always wanted."
"Alex, stop this. You're scaring me. I don't know how you're doing this, but it's not funny."
The fish man didn't seem to hear her. Billy took another step forward. The darkness swirling in the pool seemed alive. He felt like it was pulling him.
For a moment, he resisted. A part of him rebelled against doing what he was told, even in this case. But then, she was there.
The light she emitted filled the darkness of the pool. He could only see her face, her golden eyes glowing in her pale white face. She seemed so sad, so lonely.
It only took a single step. Without realizing it he had hit the edge. Dark tendrils grabbed him as he fell. Frightened, he shouted as the concrete walls around him dissolved. An image of Ms. Mckillop reaching out for him faded as the darkness surrounded him.
Her face filled his vision. Her hands caressed his body, touching him all over. Her mouth moved slowly, inevitably toward his.
