"I hate you." Was all he said.
The little man just smiled and took off again. Eric flew after him, a method that was far faster than his previous attempts. It also had a positive side effect of helping him to avoid the majority of the creatures that were appearing with greater and greater frequency on the beach.
"Where are we going?" He asked, having gained a little composure in the few minutes since the last time something had tried to kill him.
"I know a way out of this place." Eric was quite shocked to get a response. At this point he was pretty sure cryptic was the little man's default setting.
"What is this place?"
"I can't really answer that question simply." The little man answered condescendingly.
"Well then, answer it the complicated way." Eric snapped.
"Alright. This place is a compact eleventh dimensional manifold bisected by a perpendicular plane that has been inverted upon itself through the use of melanic forces into an inescapable singularity."
"Was any of that English?"
"You asked for the complicated explanation." The little man grinned.
"Fine. Give me the complicated version in words I can understand." Eric said, scowling.
"It's another world that exists in a different dimension of existence than yours, but that was connected to your world by a bridge of sorts. But the bridge doesn't lead out anymore, it just leads in, because someone umm..." He paused, clearly annoyed at having to explain in such small words, "Someone broke it. Made it into a big sinkhole in the universe. Simple enough?"
"But I thought you knew a way out? Is this bridge broken or isn't it?" He demanded.
"It was broken. But now something upset the balance, and the singularity is starting to evaporate."
"The what is doing what?"
"Argh. The bridge is coming back, okay?"
"So what, all these things are going to start crossing this bridge into our world?" The thought was terrifying. Just beneath them a creature that resembled a giant cube of jello was happily collecting other smaller monsters inside of itself. Eric shivered.
