Eventually Billy followed her. He seemed to have lost all will of his own.
Mary watched the two of them wander around, lost in her thoughts. Then suddenly someone was grabbing her arm. She turned, startled, and saw him.
"Mary, what are you doing here?"
"Alex. I-I, well, I wanted to see you." She couldn't believe she'd just gone with the truth. So much for the field trip alibi.
"Oh Mary. I'm so happy to see you. I want to talk to you, really I do. I can't leave our conversation where it was the other day."
"Alex, I was crazy. I didn't know what I was saying. Really I just want to-"
"Mary." He interrupted, putting his finger to her lips, "I want to have this conversation, really I do. But I have to do a show, and I don't have the time you deserve for it."
"What show?" She asked, feeling certain that she knew already.
"Ah. That is, umm..."
"Is this your boyfriend?" Rose asked, appearing suddenly under Mary's elbow.
"Ah. Well, yes."
"Why are you on our field trip boyfriend?" Rose asked innocently.
"Field trip?" Alex turned to Mary, raising a questioning eyebrow.
"I'll explain later." She said, blushing.
"We're on a field trip to the aquarium. We were going to see the mermaid, but it was all sold out."
With that Billy appeared, still looking as if he were made of stone. Alex's eyes suddenly opened incredibly wide. He tried to hide it immediately, but Mary had noticed. Why was he interested in Billy?
"Well, what if I told you I could get you back stage to see the mermaid up close?"
Billy's eyes flew open. He looked at Mary, then he looked at Alex, and then back at Mary.
"Can we Ms. Mckillop?" He begged.
Something about the situation seemed very wrong, but Mary couldn't quite figure it out. Maybe it was just a residual paranoia from the day before, just her mind trying to find new excuses to be mad at Alex. And anyway, Billy looked like he would murder her if she said no.
"Okay. Sure. Where do we go?"
"There's this room..." Alex began. And thus ended the last normal moment of Mary's
