"Mermaids are creatures that have never been seen before!" He said finally, "Obviously people would want to go see it."
"But if they really found a new creature, wouldn't scientists want to cut it up and stuff? Or the government would abduct them and do a bunch of experiments on them to make them into a weapon or something?"
"You watch too much anime." He grumbled.
"Well, what would you do if you found a mermaid?"
"I'd, well, I'd probably capture it, and ask it where it came from."
"Well obviously it would come from the ocean." Rose argued.
"Not this one. The news said they claimed to have fallen into a magical pool..."
Rose threw her head back laughing, "And you believe that?" she asked. "You've seen a lot of magical pools around here? If I watch too much anime you read too many fantasy novels." Then she stuck her tongue out at him.
"At least reading is good for you. Watching that stuff rots your brain." He was really starting to get annoyed now. "Maybe if you read more books you wouldn't be flunking English."
"It's not my fault the books they make us read are long and boring. And writing essays takes so much timmmmee..." She spun around in her chair as she exaggerated the last word.
"But anyway," He continued, after her chair had finally stopped spinning, "There's been all those disappearances lately too. It could all be related."
"Disappearances? I never heard about anyone who disappeared in Bradley, or even in the whole Mizuma Valley really..."
"Stacey Wilkins stopped coming to school about a month ago. You didn't notice?"
"Oh. I guess I thought her parents moved or something?"
"What? No, I mean, her brother is in the grade below us and he still comes to school."
"Oh yeah... I guess I just didn't think anything of it." Rose twisted her hair around her finger, increasing it's messiness while she thought, "But I mean, her parents haven't said anything. If they did it'd be on the news."
"Not if magic was involved. You could make them forget, or at least not think about it very much"
"So then why do you know about it then?" She asked, "What makes you so special?"
"Well, I- I've been having these dreams."
