and the guards ran off after him, oh and I ran after him too. Ermm, until I hit something."
She suddenly looked worried.
"Oh no, I didn't run into you did I? I'm so sorry!"
Thomas realised he was staring again, with him mouth open. He shut it quickly.
"Ermm, no it's fine, I'm not hurt or anything"."
"Oh thank goodness", she sighed, with genuine sincerity.
"I would never forgive myself if I did". She smiled, and Thomas felt his ears burning, he still wasn't sure why he felt like this, he was sure had asked Mari once but she didn't really say anything, and looked just as embarrassed, and then she had started coughing loudly. The girl turned her head and looked behind him.
"Oh, is that your dog running off?"
Thomas swung around. Spring was already halfway down the street, still barking at the mob that was quickly moving off into the distance.
He was about to turn around and give chase, but he hesitated.
"Ah, I've got to go else I'll never catch him up", he said quickly.
"Don't worry, I'll get your necklace back miss!" he shouted back as he started to run.
"Wait, I don't even know your name!", she shouted back.
"I'm Tom! It was nice meeting you!"
"My name is Alice! It was nice meeting you too!", she shouted back, cupping her hands around her mouth, but she wasn't sure whether he had heard her or not, he was already so far away in the distance.
She looked at the far away figures for a while, then she looked around and sat down on a bench next to the road. She took off the sack on her back and set it down next to her, and then took out a small book and pencil from it.
"Dear, diary...", she mumbled to herself while the pencil scratched on the paper.
Thomas ran down the street, his feet flying over the cobbles. He didn't wear shoes if he could help it, they never felt right anyway, and he was careful enough to not step on anything too sharp. He had always liked to run, he loved the feeling of the rush of the wind around him as his tattered robe spooled out behind him.
In front of him, the large mob of guards were having trouble getting into an alley, apparently the thief had turned into it and everyone had decided to follow at the same time. There was shouting and cries of pain, as there often is when there is
