"Hey Alice, come on!" came a voice from above her. It seemed quite distant somehow. She tried to open her eyes, but all she could see was darkness, which was actually quite comforting after the dazzling display.
"Hey, Alice?"
She heard her heart beating in her head and felt her ragged breathing. Every part of her was aching and her body was still tense in anticipation of movement. It was only natural of course, she probably didn’t have enough energy to be tired.
She felt herself being rolled over and shaken slightly. It felt very peaceful, like a baby being cradled as her head rocked back and forth.
She thought she heard someone voice calling to her, but it reached her brain as nothing more then the sounds of breaking waves. It felt so soothing, and she was suddenly felt very tired.
The sounds washed over her and her consciousness dripped away into oblivion.

It wasn’t that Ashen was a particular believer in karma, but it she had been, she would probably have thought that she must have done something pretty bad to have a day like this.
Walking the prisoner had been fine for a while, but she was being constantly reminded of her aching body. Plus, when he started to regain his senses he had started shouting and squirming alot. She had gagged him, quite forcefully, with a handful of cloth, but it wasn’t stopping him struggling and mouthing off muffled obscenities to her. And to top it off, the road ahead seemed to have been blocked up completely with people being trapped by upturned carts, mad oxen and angry drivers having a punch-up. She spied two guards resting on their spears and silently watching the rather violent scene and dragged her captive along to them.
"Private Miles! Private Booker! What are you two doing?" They both quickly turned to the voice and snapped to attention with a salute.
"Nothing, ma'am!" replied Private Rudy, a slightly short stocky man with a round piggy face. This got him a sharp nudge in the ribs by the other guard.
"What he means is, ma’am," said the other, a taller man with rather gangly features, "is that we are keeping an eye on the situation as it develops."
"Yes, your observation skills are commendable. But, personally, I think the situation has developed quite a bit, don’t you?" said Ashen, giving a them wide smile. Both of them, quite smartly, recognised this as meaning that she was not pleased with them in the slightest.
