statues and sculptures. She scrabbled around, searching for anything at all. Then she saw something glint in the darkness by the corner. She was about to reach out a hand to it, when she stopped herself. It would be stupid to touch it, especially if it was what had caused this to Garas.
She searched around and found a pair of tongs among the clutter. She carefully reached into the gloom and tried to pick up the glowing object. It was surprisingly heavy and she struggled as she brought it into the light.
It was an almost spherical object, made of pearly white stone, with a ring of gold around it. There was a large carved rune inscribed on it. It glinted in the light, shining a range of colours like a mirror.
She shuddered. The thing, whatever it was, gave off a strange feeling, a black and evil gleam. In the light she could see the faintest trail from it. It shimmered slightly, and it wound it’s way down to the floor, and along to the still slumped Garas.
She didn’t much care for what it was, but she knew she wanted it as far away from her as possible. She moved towards the door frame with some difficulty, still holding the tongs and made her way down a hallway to the large door. She shoved it open, and daylight streamed in from outside. She held the tongs behind her, and in one swift movement, swung them around in a batting motion, making sure to let the object leave mid way sending it flying through the air, up into the sky and then down behind some buildings in the distance.
Behind her, she heard a loud groan. She ran back through the hallway, reaching the large room again. Garas was still sitting there, but he was moving and rubbing his eyes.
"Garas... You’re alright...", she panted, the feeling of relief coupled with breathlessness.
"Mrrrrmmm", he replied.
"Heh, well... Back to normal... At least", she shook her head and stood up straight.
"What was that thing anyway?"
"Rrrmmmrr..."
"Yeah, load of good you were too. Come on, let’s get you up".
She crouched down and took his arm over her shoulders and propped herself up against the wall, lifting him. She struggled over to an armchair and slumped him into it.
He managed to get his arms onto the armrests, and seemed to struggle to get up. Then he simply slumped back and let out a huge breath and let his head roll forward again. Marian saw his eyes close slowly.
"Hey, come on now", she bent down and shook him, but he made no movement.
