It took them a while to leave the street of houses they were on, mostly due to Garas being reluctant to walk, or even walk in a straight line, but they managed to reach the main street with only a couple of falls. She was beginning to think that she really should have left him behind, if only to not have him slumped across her back like a drunkard.
Everyone must have been at lunch because the streets seemed devoid of activity. She stood at the entrance for a while, pondered what to do.
"Hmm, I suppose we should look for Thomas."
"Yeah..."
From the rather slurred way that the answer was communicated, she guessed that he still wasn’t fully awake yet.
"Or, stop at a restaurant somewhere."
"Uh huh."
"Maybe take a look at the clock tower?" She shook him firmly, and he stumbled off to his side with a small grunt.
"Mhmm..."
"Or, maybe we could throw you in the river." She said this quite calmly with a faint smile on her face.
"River, sure
He stopped walking for a moment and blinked once or twice.
"Wait, what?"
She sighed and started to drag him out of the side passage and into the street ahead. It was a hard job sometimes, trying to look after the two of them. One was just a kid, and the other one might as well be a one with the way he acted. Thankfully he seemed to be getting the hang of walking, which was lucky because her shoulder had started to ache under his weight.
"Come on, it’s not gonna do us any good just standing around. And anyway, I did want to look at those towers anyway."
"Yeah, you and your thing about archi-. Archet-" his face screwed up in apparent concentration and after a pause managed, "...buildings and stuff."
"Yes Garas", she sighed, "and it’s pronounced architecture. Besides, you can’t talk about my hobbies like that, I’ve seen what you’ve put in that book of yours." She gave him a wide smile that made him give a small cough and turn his head away.
Together they walked along, slightly haphazardly, down the road. She was quite glad that no one was around. They probably did look a bit strange, her carrying a rather drunk looking guy, usually people didn’t do that until after work. Oh well, she thought, it’s wasn’t the worst way to spend an afternoon. A smiled to herself, discreetly, and they stumbled their way along the road and further into the city.
