The girl started to giggle and the dog stopped his digging to look up at her. The giggling went on and on and turned into a laugh, and the girl laughed and laughed until as last she sank to the ground with her sides heaving. The dog jumped up out of the hole to see if the girl was okay.
She was still laughing, but the dog saw tears in her eyes too, so the dog went over and licked her face, but this only made her laugh harder. At last she stopped laughing and lay there on the ground breathing hard. She wrapped her arms around the dog and squeezed him close to her. It hurt the dog's leg a little when she squeezed him, but the dog did not try to get away because he liked the girl and he was happy she was with him.
After a while the girl sighed and got up off the ground. She picked up the shovel and started digging the hole again. The dog helped as much as he could, but after a while the hole started to get too deep, and the dog did not know if he would be able to get out of the hole. The girl picked him up and put him on the edge of the hole, and went on digging, throwing one shovel of dirt after another onto the growing pile next to the hole. The dog lay down on the other side of the hole from the pile and watched the girl dig with his head on his paws.
Finally when the hole was deep enough to hold the girl up to her chest, she stopped digging and climbed up out of it.
She rested for a while, sitting on the edge of the hole with her feet dangling down and the dog could smell the sweat on her skin. At last she turned to the dog and said some words, and then got up and started toward the house. She went into the kitchen where the dead-thing was sprawled out on the floor in a mess of its own splattered flesh and brains. She grabbed the dead-thing by the ankles and dragged it toward the outside. The dead-thing was very heavy, and the girl had to stop after she got it outside and rest for a few minutes. Then she grabbed the dead-thing again, and dragged it the rest of the way across the yard to where the hole was. She stopped when the body was next to the hole and rolled it over into the hole. The dead-thing fell and landed with the thump at the bottom of the hole. The girl stood up, brushed herself off and went back inside.
The dog followed her into the bedroom, where she stood a while looking at something on the bed. The dog put his front paws up on the side of the bed and looked to see what was up there. He saw a woman dressed in a long grey dress with her arms crossed over her chest. There was a hole in the front of her head, with a little blood around it. The dog could smell that the woman was dead.
