He drank, and he drank, and he drank, until the water was all gone from the bowl, and then the girl took the bowl and filled it up with water, and the dog drank a little more. Then he went to his food bowl and ate some of his food. When he was done eating the dog went and found the girl sitting in the big chair in the living room.
She wasn't doing anything, just rocking back and forth with her head down a little, so the dog went and got his ball and brought it to the girl and dropped it in her lap. The girl looked at the ball and then at the dog, and then picked up the ball and threw it down the hall. The dog ran after the ball, and brought it back, and the girl threw it again, but then the girl did not throw the ball again, and the dog wanted to fetch the ball so he started to bark for the girl to throw the ball.
The girl made a shushing sound and then said some words, and the dog did not know what the words meant, but he could tell the girl was worried so he stopped barking and licked her face.
The girl giggled a little and then pushed the dog away. Then she got up out of the chair and started walking through the house. She went to the refrigerator first, but when she opened it, the dog thought something smelled funny, and the girl must have smelled it too, because she shut the door and went to the pantry. She stayed there for a while looking at the cans and things in the pantry. Then she went through the rest of the rooms in the house, and found a backpack from under the bed that was very dusty, and also crowbar out of the garage. She put the crowbar and the backpack on the bed in the bedroom, and the dog was not supposed to get up on the bed, but he did anyway so that he could see what the girl was doing, and she did not tell him to get down, so he curled up at the top of the bed by the pillows, and shut his eyes.
A little later he heard the water running in the shower, and a little after that the girl got into the bed and crawled under the covers. The dog tried to lick the girl's face, but she giggled and pushed him away, so the dog went back to sleep.
When he woke back up it was dark, and the dog knew he needed to go outside to go to the bathroom, so he licked the girl to wake her up. She rolled over and looked at the dog, and the dog woofed at her and then ran over to the bedroom door. She got up and let him out of the bedroom, but when he went to the side door to be let out, she shook her head, and said 'No.' Then she said some other words that the dog did not know. The dog woofed again because he did not think she understood, but she shook her head and said 'No' again. The dog did not understand, so he barked and barked as loud as he could, and she was trying to shush him, but the dog did not stop. But then he smelled something wrong and he heard a low moaning sound, and he knew that the dead-things were back.
