I try to pay attention to Mr. Brady but my mind cant help to wander. What is wrong with me? Lucy Davis is just an ordinary, every day girl. Its not like she has ever done anything to make me like this, its the first time i have ever heard of the girl. I just need to calm down. Yeah, i need to keep my cool. Maybe i should introduse my self. I wait till Mr. Brady gives us work then i turn to her. Her face is looking down with her dark brown hair pooling around the desk. I clear my throat.
"Um, hey, I'm Seth Marshal, your new lab partner" I say. She looks up at me, her eyes are dark and guarded. I hold out my hand, she does not take it. She looks at me then my hand, then gives me a dirty look. Ok that could have gone better. I pull my hand away then she looks back down. I feel like this is going to be a very very long semester. Hopefully as the days go on it will get better, maybe she will warm up to me. Somehow i doubt it.
I get started on the lab that her and i are suposed to be doing together but i can see that she is obviously not going to be doing anything, for today atleast. I am not going to sit by and let this girl fail the course. I have been put in charge of making sure she understands everything that we are doing. I am her tutor in this class.
"Ok Lucy you need to open your lab book to page 25. We are working with acids and bases. So for you to get caught up in everything that we have been learning i think that we are going to have to meet after school or maybe during lunch of a few weeks-"
"Ok just stop there"she signs to me. Wow, she is really good at sign language. I remeber wanting to learn because there is a guy in my youth group that i totally deaf. But Lucy is not deaf, this is her choice not to talk. "your the guy who knows sign language right" I nod my head. "well then, if you havent noticed, i dont want to be here, i wont ever want to be here, and i am not going to participate. So you can just do whatever you want to do, just dont include me in any of it. Because i am telling you now i am going to be doing nothing here. So dont waist your breath" signs Lucy.
Um wow thats great.I turn away from her. What should i do? Maybe i should involve Mr. Brady in this. Yup that is what i am going to do. I turn back to her.
"Ok listen here" I sign to her. If she wasnt going to speak neither am i. "I dont know who you think you are but we are going to be doing this together. I am not going to sit back and watch you do nothing except sit there staring into space feeling sorry for yourself. So get with the program cause if you dont i am going to get the teacher involved and he will get the pricipal involved. Which in turn will get your mother involved. I understand that you have had a hard life but i will not allow you slack
