The Hostile Hospital by Lemony Snicket
The Baudelaire siblings must be the most unfortunate people in the world. After their parents died in a fire, the Baudelaires have been going from caretaker to caretaker, fleeing the notorious and greedy Count Olaf, who wants the Baudelaire fortune. Accused of murder, the Baudelaire siblings stay with the Volunteers Fighting Disease, who believe that no news is good news, and therefore don’t realise that the Baudelaires are accused of murder. They sleep in the unfinished half of a hospital. They have been trying to figure out the secret of V.F.D. and Jacques Snicket to prove their innocence and escape the clutches of Count Olaf. Fourteen-year-old inventor Violet, thirteen-year-old researcher Klaus, and baby Sunny, who loves to bite things, can get themselves out of any situation, only to find something more unfortunate happen to them. Through all this, they learn that the difference between a villain and hero is that a hero cares about others, while a villain leaves others in the face of danger.
This book is the saddest book you will ever read. No one in their right minds will want to read this very depressing book. The thing is, I’m not in my right mind. If you aren’t in your right mind, and you like books with mystery, thrills, adventure, and sadness, you will love this book. Lemony Snicket makes funny and witty comments, while also teaching about telegrams, what certain words or phrases mean, and other things in this book, which is very educational for the reader. Klaus tries his best to keep his siblings together, and reminds them what is more important in this book. He tries his best to take care of Sunny when Violet isn’t there, and he tries to research things that will help them. The things he learns from reading a book saves the siblings’ lives sometimes. What makes him realistic is that he cares about others, and that he wants to be with all of his siblings. This book was fantastic. I kept wondering what would happen next, and that wonder made me keep turning the pages and not stop reading. I liked when Klaus reminds Violet that it very important to stick together. This book is great. If you are not in your right mind, you should read it.
