"He's a corpse, Will." She said, not taking her lead foot off of the accelerator. "Nothing new to us."

"Really?" I asked, rolling down the window to take a closer look. "How can you tell?"

"He's sprawled on the ground, his skin's pale" Said the sleep deprived Corinne. "What do you expect, Jesus?"

"You're not making any sense." I said.

"We're not stopping." She chewed on her lower lip. "The next check point should be less than a day's journey from here."

"Where, Naperville?" I snapped. "The place is probably crawling with worshipers."

"Okay, we've been quiet for too long." Her lead foot eases up on the pedal. "What the Hell are worshipers?"

"An Olympic Gold Medalist hails from there; one of the only great things to come out of the town." I explained, keeping an eagle eye on her foot. "There going to wait for him until he comes back, like some kind of prophet."

"Which he never will because..." The car slows down even further.

"Insanity sets in and" I jump out the second I feel the vibrating croak to a halt. "I'm gone." Every part of me wants to turn back as I run down the road to the gas station we passed. It's cold, it's windy, it's down right miserable without a heater; but I know a human when I see one, a living human.

"Fuck you, Willow!" Corinne hollers out of the window as my tennis shoes dig into the asphalt. It's from Corinne, we've been driving for close to twelve hours, and I could eat a horse; I'm not turning back. "Do you want to die?!"

"Do you want a chance?" I call back.
