He held his tanned hand out to me. I hesitate one second before putting it, a peace offering. We ran off the edge of the bank together and plunged into the cool water. My head broke through the surface and a laugh escaped my lips. I turned to find Aiden and found myself face to face.
Then.
He.
Kissed.
Me.
It was a sweet kiss.
A small kiss.
From his warm lips.
My heart pounded.
We stared at each other.
I felt like we had stepped over a line that was always there, waiting for us to cross.
"Pizza!"
Dad broke the spell. I really wanted to be made at him for interrupting.
But I was hungry.
Aiden got out first then reached out his hand to me again. This time I didn't hesitate. I grabbed it.
And didn't let go.
We walked over to the big, shade tree where Dad had placed the pizza and root beer. Out of the corner of my eye I saw him study us. I'm not sure but I think he shivered.
I also looked at Jake from the safety of the corner of my eyes. He was ignoring us.
We ate pizza in forced conversation. I didn't want to hurt Jake's feelings. I consoled myself with the fact that Diedra liked him and she's my best friend and I wanted her to be happy so I should stay away from him anyway, right?
Right?
I glanced at Diedra.
She wasn't looking at me. She was looking at Jake.
Who was looking at Aiden.
Who was staring at me with s silly grin on his face.
