I'm Not Who You Think I Am
Felicia liked the same cat I did. I sensed we could be best friends and I told her that. She smiled and told me she would like to be friends with me. As long as she can keep her grades up.
We were walking around the china hutch when the door swung open and in walked Norma in all her fat glory.
"Hi, Grandma!" I shouted, desperately trying to convey the problem.
She looked confused first but then smiled and asked how I was. She offered Felicia and me ice cream cones. Norma LOVES ice cream. Probably shows the reason she's fat.
Felicia and I ate the rest of the carton and then Felicia had to leave. She waved and walked out the door. I would've followed her except 'Grandma' Norma asked me to stay behind.
"You know you can't attract a bee to vinegar."
"What?" I asked while searching for bees. I couldn't smell vinegar. Only Norma's stuff for her aching joints.
"You shouldn't lie to your friends."
"But she likes your cats."
Norma beamed. No, really, she was glowing.
"Does she now? Which is her favorite?"
"I think the blue and white one."
"That's one of my favorites too."
She plopped down in her over sized rocker because Norma is over sized. She sounded tired. She worked a lot down at the school.
"How's school coming along?"
"Fine." I didn't want to talk about the way kids looked at me sideways or how they didn't seem to like me. So either my reputation proceeded me or I am a horrible person. Norma lets me know it's neither, whatever the reputation is. Things can always be worked out.
I didn't want to tell that idea doesn't work with me.
