I hear a motorcycle out front and run to the door. Aiden jumps off the bike and runs to the car pulling up behind him. Tiffany? Why did he call her? What is this, study group? He opens the door and pulls someone out into his arms. My feet know what to do before my brain does.
I run to Georgie.
"What happened?" I ask Aiden. Georgie is a small bundle in his arms. I run back inside and direct him to the sofa.
Georgie stirs when he lays her down. A trail of blood runs down from her hair. I sit by her side, unable to move.
"I found her in the gutter a block from Danny's." Aiden said. He disappears into the kitchen and a few seconds later returns with a wet washcloth. My trembling hand takes it and dabs at Georgie's face and hair.
"Where is he?" I ask through clenched teeth. What did he do to her?
"I went to his house and he told me to come in and chill. Gave me a soda. I looked around for Georige but she wasn't there. I asked him where she was. He said they got in a fight and she walked home."
"Right," I said.
"I believe him," Aiden said. I glared at him. Why did I trust him?
Tiffany walked in just then. "I called Danny. He wants to come over and check on Georgie. Claims he had no idea she was hurt."
"Right," I say again. Tiffany nods her head at me, brows drawn down and scrunched together.
I glance between the two of them. Why was she here again?
"Tiffany lives down the street from Danny. I thought it would be quicker to have her bring Georgie home then call you."
I nod though I don't want to agree.
"Let's go," Tiffany says to Aiden. "We've done all we can do."
"I need to be here when Danny comes," Aiden says.
I'm not sure if my hands shake with anger or fear. Am I afraid of Danny? No. I would like to hurt him worse than he has hurt my little sister. Maybe kill him. My hands shake worse. I shut my eyes and breath deeply.
Aiden takes the bloody washcloth back to the kitchen and brings it back rinsed out. I try to find the place that is bleeding in her hair. I push a little hard.
"Ouch!" Georgie says. She tries to pull herself up but I won't let her.
"You're okay now," I say. Am I speaking to her or me?
