I'm Not Who You Think I Am
A car door slams outside and I grab the back of the couch.
"I swear it wasn't me," Danny says to Aiden when he greets him at the door. "I love her."
How does love translate into bruises and split lips?
"Danny?!" Georgie screeches. I can't hold her down anymore. He rushes to her and grabs her up in his arms.
"I'm so sorry. I won't let anyone hurt you again. I knew I should have gone after you."
Georgie strokes his hair. And. Apologizes. I think I might be sick.
"I think I'll go," Aiden says. I didn't realize he still stood in the open doorway.
"Thanks," I say. Tiffany is waiting for him outside. I turn my back on them. I mus be strong. I say the only thing I know will get Georgie back. "Dad will be home soon."
She glances at me and nods. She pats Danny's cheek. "I need to clean up before my dad gets home."
"Why? There's nothing to hide. We should call the police." He takes his cell out of his jacket pocket but before he dials Georgie slaps the phone away.
"I'm fine. Angelica will me clean up."
"But someone beat you up!" Danny's voice goes up a few notches. Does he really care for her?
I grimace as Georgie kisses him with damaged lips. She whispers something in his ear. Georgie lays back down and he rubs her head. Danny gets up and walks to the still open door. He turns to me and says, "take care of her or I'll hurt you."
Real man, that one. I glare at him. "Like you hurt Georgie?"
He stomps off to his car.
"That wasn't nice," Georgie says.
"But oh so fun," I reply. I help her to the bathroom. She sits on the toilet while I clean up her face. I ask her what happens but she doesn't remember anything more than before.
"Do you think it's the same guy who hurt Daddy?" she asks. Her voice trembles.
"Nah," I lie to her.
