I'm Not Who You Think I Am
She's good at talking around every word and person.
"Killed anyone lately?"
Just like that she put at ease. Not really. She wants me uneasy. On edge. Its' not going to work. I've spent many hours with my personal detective name John Birch.
So I turn it back on her.
"Have you?" I want her to think of my twin. My other half. Would she be better than me? Balance me? Keep friends alive?
"Still sassy," she says.
"Still wondering why you're here."
"Fine. i need forty grand."
I laugh through my nose which sounds like a snort.
"Where are you going to get that?"
"Your dad has money he hasn't told you girls about. I want it."
"Dad doesn't have money," Georgie whispers. "We're poor. I can't even by a decent pair of jeans."
"Because you have to take out a small loan for brand of jeans you want."
"Shut up," she says under her breath.
"You two are sisters," mom says like she's discovered something new.
I really want to say "duh" but I don't. I want to leave, get away from this person who only wants money, not her family.
"Tell you what," I said. "You go talk to Dad and we'll finish shopping."
"I don't feel like it anymore," Diedra said. She looked a little sick.
Thanks, Mom.
"Fine. Let's go."
Mom stopped me by putting a hand on my shoulder. She handed me a paper with a phone number on it. "This is my cell. Call me after you talk to him."
She disappeared into the shopping crowd.
"Fun murder," I said. The three of us went outside to wait for Aiden and Jake who said they would pick us up about now.
And there they were. With two other pretty girls in the car. I peeked at Diedra to see how she was looking and if it was possible, she was paler.
