"WE can call my dad," I whisper to her. She shakes her head. Aiden honked the horn and we all jumped.
Another gift from Mommy dearest.
The three of us pile in the back seat with the girl who apparently likes Jake because she sat behind him and played with his hair while he tried to talk to Aiden and the girl almost on his lap.
I didn't like her.
"Where to girls?" Aiden said.
"My house is fine," I say. It's not like we live that far apart. I would have walked home to avoid watching the two blondes flirting but it was hot and humid and we hit some great sales which means we had a lot of bags.
"Did you girls find some good stuff?"
Blondie in the front turned and looked at Georgie, who only nodded.
"Cool," she said before she blew a big bubble with her gum then effectively popped it all over her self.
"Cool," Diedra said very sarcastically.
I decide to ignore everyone in the front but when I do that, I found myself questioning the validity of mom's claim. I now realize I didn't ask the right questions like, why do you need that much money and how do you know he has money?
Now I had questions for Dad too, like do you really have that much money? If yes, where did you get it and why didn't you tell us and then buy us good clothes instead of shopping at thrift stores. And maybe if we didn't move so much we'd have money.
Oh.
I was anxious to get home and talk to dad at the same I was scared. The most scared I've felt in a long time.
But then I felt mad because I feel like I've fallen into mom's manipulating trap again. And really she doesn't have a say in my life, does she. She's shown up twice in my life and both times messed it up. Except Georgie isn't messed up unless you count the people who hurt her.
"Here you go girls," Aiden said as he pulled up in front of my house. I was ready to go swimming. Get of the heat of the weather of the car.
