The Rebellion
Her 'hero' had walked back to the little house that she had been staying at since her brother dissapeared. The whole way there she had been lost in thought with Owain. The idea of having someone in her life at that moment gave her a slight feeling of happiness with a large side of worry to follow. What if something happened to Owain? What would I do if I lost him too? Victoria asked herself.
As they neared her room, she felt tears roll down her face. She wanted to deny her feelings to keep the moment happy. After all, he did save her life.
"Hey, why are you crying? Out of all those months you spent recuperating, I never once saw you cry. Why now?" Owain had set her down on her bed, still wrapped up in the towel. She followed his movements with her bright eyes as he sat down next to her.
"Because, this," she waved her hand from herself to him, "us, we can't happen."
"I'm not sure I understand," he smiled.
"I've seen the way you look at me, and I just don't want that to happen," she sighed. Her bottom lip trembled slightly.
"Why not?" Owain's face still held it's goofy smile.
"Because," Victoria dropped her gaze to her fidgeting hands.
"Because isn't an answer. It's a word," he said.
Victorias' cheeks began to turn a bright red as his comment frustrated her. She ran a cold and pale hand through her dull hair as she thought about what she wanted to say.
"I can't because I wouldn't be able to continue living this time if I lost you too," tears rolled down her flushed face as she adverted her eyes from his.
"I just-" he interrupted her. "You won't lose me. That won't happen. I won't allow it to happen. There are too many things in the world that I have left to do before I die. When the time comes for it, all this pain, this chaos, this evil," Owain paused. "Will be gone." He had her face cupped gently in his hands. She knew that this time he meant it. She knew that this time, it wasn't some "I will save the world" speech that he so enjoyed to dispurse among the poor people of the market street.
Somehow, his words of comfort relaxed her mind. She discovered that she had developed a strong feeling that she could trust his words. The impending sense of future success overwhelmed her strong mind. Victoria felt the strength return to her body from the time before she was thrown into the chaos of the war. Something was different this time, something new melted the ice in her heart.
She wrapped her wet limbs around Owain as she cried silently into his shoulder. As the heat melted the ice and heated the left over water, she felt the pain of moving on heal the wounds in her chest. This healing sparked an entirely new feeling. A feeling of revenge, and the need to live on in her brother's memory. If he would live for her, she would live for him.
