The Rebellion
Her thin, pale hands let go of their grasp on the frame of the window and felt the air rush by her ears as she fell backwards into the river.
The sky was a beautiful gradient of blue, purple, orange, and yellow with some clouds separating the beauty of it. Her view of it was broken up by her dull hair as it whipped around in her face as she finally began her decent into the river. She kept her emerald eyes on the window making sure that Owain wasn't going to follow her. She didn't want life anymore, nor did she want anyone dictating how she wanted to live her life, or how she wanted to end it.
The surface of the water was beginning to show her silhouette as her small body drew closer to her chosen fate.
The hard slap of her back on the water forced all of the air out of her. Death began to seem frightening. What if Tavish isn't there when I'm gone, she questioned her own reasoning. She struggled in the water trying to reach the surface but her malnourished limbs didn't have the strength to bring her up for air. Water began to fill her lungs, but with no air to cough, she had no way of pumping it out. She realized that he wanted her to learn about the fright of death. He wanted her to fear that which dug it's cold fingers deep into her soul. He got his wish, she thought. Now get me out of here, her mind screamed.
Her hands broke the surface of the water, leaving white foam that obscured her vision of the town. With one powerful downward slap of her hands on the water, she brought her head up briefly. It was enough time to force some water out of her lungs and breathe in the oxygen she so desperately needed. However, time itself wasn't enough to keep her head above the water for long. Just as suddenly as she had broke the surface, she had found herself back underneath in the aquatic realm.
Her arms began to burn with the lost energy of her muscles. She was so exhausted all she wanted to do was close her eyes and drift with the soft current of the river. It was when something brown moved out from her window that she knew Owain had no intention of listening to her.
A new hope had sparked in her heart that maybe Owain wasn't as heartless as she thought he was. Her muscles revitalized with the wave of adrenaline that ran through her veins. He showed her fear, and now he was showing her what it meant to hope.
She found herself breathing in water once more as her organs screamed for air. The water rushed into her mouth and filled it with what tasted like metal. Copper if she wanted to get specific. Slowly, her vision began to blur. Edges became unclear. Seconds seemed like hours as Owain's brown form began to even touch the surface of the river.
He left a trail of bubbles behind him as he hit the water with his broad shoulders. She almost didn't see them as her vision began to narrow. Victoria closed her sea green eyes as death's cold fingers winded themselves around her weak body.
