“will do boss. he said sarcastically.

“ok hoss. i said. i hated when i was called boss. i’m not your boss bro, i’m merely another human hanging out in the same vicinity as you. the only thing I liked less than that was chief. or racial slurs. i can’t stand those either. i’m just a white bread cracker. you know the term wigger? does it offend anyone other than a wigger? i asked this black dude once if it offended him, he said he wasn’t sure, said that he never really thought about it and that he guessed not. that settles exactly nothing.
jason came back and forth and back and forth 1 or 2 boxes at a time. he got everything that i’d asked for except for one thing. he had been in the walk in for probably 20 minutes.
“where’s the new guy?"asked fred.
“who?"
“jason, where is he?"
“dunno, walk in maybe?"
fred peaked into the cooler and saw jason cold as hell looking under the racking.
“do you know where the oranges are fred?" he asked shivering.
“uh, we’re all out." said fred.
the old get the oranges from the walk in trick. shit was funny. we had no oranges, you follow up pineapple with oranges and it makes sense. no pizza place carries oranges. fred came out and asked me to come up to the front counter. i told jason to fill the line.
“what’s up fred?"
“why do you always do that?"
“do what?"
“fuck with the new guy."
“was i?"
“c’mon derrick. you know you were. shit’s not funny. we need to promote a culture employees feel welcome and want to stay here for a while.
“don’t call me derrick. have you been drinking?"
“i’m serious. theresa was here yesterday and said that some of the new hires have been complaining that the trainers were fucking with them and they don’t feel comfortable at work."
theresa was the district manager, she was cool but strict and didn’t put up with much shit. she wasn’t afraid to fire anyone at any time and on the spot. our last store manager was cooking the books, we all knew it but he finally got caught. i remember that she came in and he was standing at the front register and his wife and 2 girls were on the other side of the counter, they had come to see him on their way to the mall. theresa came in and saw him and explained that she couldn’t employ him any longer as he lied and cheated on company time and broke policy.all in front of his wife and kids. dude started crying right in the dining room. it was pretty gnarly.
