Shifting Winds
saw my phone beginning to vibrate. A call. From Janessa. Rolling my eyes I pressed the "send" button. "Hello?" "Heyy, Xiana!" Janessa cooed. "You wanna come hang out for a while? Mr. McCall's homework was a killer today, huh?" For a moment, I was tempted to think that she was serious. That she really wanted me to come over. Then I heard a faint giggle and a frantic "Shhh!" from the background. I had fallen for that trick once before, but I wouldn't again. "No thanks", I answered simply. "You sure?" she "sweetly" questioned. "Yeah", I confirmed. I heard her end the call. As much as I tried to hold them back, angry and frustrated tears began to stream down my fact. Why did it have to be like this? Why couldn't I just have ONE friend . Putting my head in my hands I sobbed. "Xiana, come for dinner", my mom called. Wiping my face I got up. My parents were simple people. My mom had brown hair and brown eyes. My dad had grey hair and black eyes. They weren't the greatest looking couple out there. They were plain. But I loved them. My Dad owned his own business, and my mom was a teacher. They both worked hard, but loved their work. She had made dinner every night. "How was your day?" my dad asked. "It was fine". He smiled at me warmly. "Thats good", my mom said. I finished my food quietly and then helped with the dishes. "Thank you", she said quietly as I made my way back to my room. My homework finished, I laid on my bed and stared at the ceiling. Deciding to just go to bed I put on my pajamas and got in my bed. I shighed softly. Closing my eyes, I hoped that I would be asleep fast. Waking up the next morning, I thought that I had really actually fallen asleep quite quickly. Getting up I opened my window. It would be another beautiful California sunny day! Jumping into the shower the warm water made me feel better. Pulling out a pair of bright blue skinny jeans and a white top, I got dressed. In vain, I tried to pull a comb through my hair, so I ended up leaving it hanging down my back, "held" back my a scrunchie. Going out to the kitchen I ate my breakfast silently. "Is everything okay, Cahlina?" my mom asked. I smiled up at her. "Yes mom, I'm okay. Really". She smiled back at me and walked out the door to work. My dad had already left. After getting my backpack and making sure I had my cell phone I went out the door making sure to lock it behind me. The walk to school
