Chapter II: Derek's Birthday, But Not Really

It was October. Derek had made it thus far into the school year, and after meager existence of class and practice, he had decided to spend some time being social.

Derek had two friends at college, and while this may sound like a great start for someone who had only been in college for two months and had been a recluse, there are a few disclaimers that may change one's opinion on Derek's deceivingly minor socializing effort. Grant and Alex were both twins, and had been best friends with Derek since the second grade - well, sort of.

Derek had met Grant in his second grade class. They were instantly friends because both of them were very skilled at sneaking their Gameboys into class. Pokemon was the trend at the time, and Grant and Derek were no exception to the crowd. Instead of spending their time reading on the carpet in the back of the class when finished with their homework, Derek and Grant would play video games, and, of course, wrestle.

The only way to accomplish the former was by hiding their game system (as many generations had done before them with different treasures to hide) behind books. The latter, and far more interesting of the two, was accomplished by scrunching themselves by bending at the knees and sitting on their calves in a similar way as a catcher might in baseball. Because of the diminutive position, this was often referred to, affectionately, as "Midget Wrestling", and was performed in a similar fashion as sumo.

Derek and Grant had always found joy in fighting with each other. For instance, in the fourth grade, Derek received a detention from yelling in excruciating pain as Grant tried to remove Derek's ear with his hands during class. After begging for the teacher to understand that Grant had pulled his ear
