Michelle had come to see that her church family had surprised her with a Christmas party. "This will be the last Christmas you will spend with us, so we figured we would have a small party." the pastor said.
"But I am only one person. Why are you doing this for me?" Michelle asked, humbled by the whole idea.
"Because you are a very special person, Michelle." the pastor said.
When Cuthrell, Wiley, Ryan, Katie, Matt, Samantha, Stacey, Nichole, and Renee came into the hall, Michelle was shocked and gave a sly smile. "The Nine!" she exclaimed, giving them all a hug. She gave them cards and a plate of Christmas cookies, then proceeded to the dancing area of the hall. Ryan quickly followed while the rest sat at a table. Ryan asked Michelle to dance, and she accepted. They danced slowly, Michelle's head resting on Ryan's shoulders. Ryan looked at the rest of the group with a kind smile. "Do you think- that Michelle likes Ryan?" Stacey asked, observing Michelle's behavior.
"She might." Nichole suggested, "She considers him her closest church friend."
"I think there is something more to this." Renee said.
"I think so too." Wiley said, lost in thought as he watched them. Anyone at the table could see his sudden interest in the couple. Cuthrell nudged him, but Wiley only glanced at him before turning his attention back to Ryan and Michelle. Finally, the final song of the hour was played, and it would be an hour before any more would come from the hall. Michelle and Ryan hugged, then sat down. Wiley noted Michelle sat in between him and Ryan, but thought nothing of it. "I'm going to go get some drinks and something to eat." Ryan said, getting up from his chair. Michelle nodded, then turned to Wiley. "How is everything at East High going for you, Mr. Wiley?" she asked.
"It's going well, thanks." Wiley replied. He just wanted to stare into her beautiful brown eyes, so steeped in mystery- "How's South?"
"Good." Michelle's reply came with an air of simple joy.
"You know, I was planning on having Michelle sing a tune for us for the spring concert." Cuthrell mentioned. Michelle was in shock. Cuthrell nodded.
"This is such a great Christmas. Thanks you, my wonderful Nine." Michelle said, smiling with pride. Suddenly, she gasped at the touch of a cold, hard hand.
