TIDAL POTOMAC FROM KEY BRIDGE TO INDIAN HEAD-

SMALL CRAFT ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM EDT THIS EVENING
REST OF THIS AFTERNOON
NW WINDS 10 KT WITH GUSTS TO 20 KT. WAVES
1 FT.
TONIGHT
N WINDS 5 TO 10 KT. WAVES 1 FT.
Once we got the boat launched I attempted to start the motor only to find out my cranking battery was dead. I noticed the depth finder was on. I guess has been on since I picked up the boat from getting serviced. I swapped out one of two trolling motor batteries and we were back in business.
Today we started at Ft. Washington where the river channel swings in close to shore. It's a good place to catch bass, stripers, and catfish. The winds were howling today and the front that pushing through was going to make the fishing tough. It was kind of interesting that we were the only ones launching at the Marina. The were no other trucks and trailers in the parking area. There was a picture of a guy at the marina office that caught a 10lb 2oz large mouth somewhere on the river. He caught it on a worm.
After fishing the channel swing for about an hour fighting the wind and boat wake's and waves I have had enough. We did not get one bite. We headed up past the Woodrow Wilson Bridge and headed over to blue plains. We fished there for a couple of hours with no bites at all. The wind was a bear the waves were white capping on the river. It was chilly but not to cold. It just enough of a pain in the butt to leave and head over to the spoils.
We got to the spoils and started fishing at the mouth of the cove and we worked our way in to the back. The back of the cove makes a little right hand turn going towards Washing Harbor. It is just enough of a turn to get you out of the wind and waves. I threw everything in by tackle box. I did not get one bite. Not even a nibble. The old gray looking crain that I saw was perched on a tree limb. He did not move at all. They are usually at the waters edge trying to get some food. Over all it was good to get on the water.
